Oh great, another Studio

Over the last 10 years, we (Chris and Fabi) have been on a journey together – sometimes racing full speed, sometimes quietly tinkering in the background. Everything changed when we ended up as roommates, spending late nights dissecting design systems and ranting about terrible websites.

Over the last 10 years, we (Chris and Fabi) have been on a journey together – sometimes racing full speed, sometimes quietly tinkering in the background. Everything changed when we ended up as roommates, spending late nights dissecting design systems and ranting about terrible websites.

One night, after our fifth complaint about "why do small businesses have such awful websites?" an idea sparked: HeyKiez, a website builder that would ask business owners simple questions about their hours, offerings, and FAQs to automatically generate their site. We poured ourselves into it. And then... it flopped. Completely. But that failure taught us more about how we wanted to build and approach work than any success could have.

In 2023, we finally put a name to our partnership: Uninspired Studios. After discovering another.studio and boring.work were already taken, Uninspired Studios felt right. We simply want to create solid, well-designed products without the bullshit. Our first year was messy – figuring out a workflow that actually works for us while juggling client projects and somehow launching OpenPaper in between deadline sprints. Now, we've cleared the path so we can focus less on how we build and more on what we're building.

Our way of working is surprisingly simple: trust. Some decisions we agonize over together, others happen on the fly by whoever's doing the work. No micromanagement, no ego battles – just respect for each other's expertise and a shared understanding that we're building something larger than ourselves.

A project with the Weizenbaum Institute (basically Germany's internet institute). The goal: display research in a way people actually want to engage with. This project eventually led to OpenPaper.
